JOB POSTING: RANGE RIDER COORDINATOR

Position Summary

The Xaxli’p Community Forest Corporation requires a  “Range Riders Coordinator”. This position will support the expansion and improvement of our Indigenous Guardians program, which we call the Range Riders. The coordinator will have the skills and experience to coordinate the program, develop funding partnerships and apply for grants. The coordinator will be a minimum of 8 months to year round position for next 3 years. They will participate in the 5 months field season and have time on either side of the field season for program planning, funding, and relationship building. The Range Riders Coordinator reports to the Community Forest Manager and supervises the Range Riders. The specific job description includes:

·         Protecting Xaxli’p Survival Territory by leading the Range Riders Program

·         Sourcing funds for each season

·         Designing work plans and training plans

·         Supervising the 2 Range Riders

·         Participating in field work (territory patrols on horseback, youth activities, trail maintenance, mapping, and monitoring environmental impacts)

·         Improving information sharing between Range Riders Program and the Xaxli’p community

·         Preparing interim and final reports

 

Required Skills and Experience

·         Organization, including scheduling, data organization, and time management

·         Computer literacy, GPS, and GIS

·         Report writing

·         Ability to work on horseback, or willingness to learn (much of the work is done on horseback)

·         Class 5 Drivers License

·         Commitment to the protection and restoration of Xaxli’p Survival Territory

·         Crew supervision

·         Project management

·         Grant writing

·         Ecosystem monitoring fieldwork

·         Knowledge of Xaxli’p trails and culture


Position is a maximum of 40 hours per week. Wage depends on skills and experience. Overnight camping in Xaxli’p Survival Territory is required on a regular basis. Weekend work is occasionally required.
