We are passionate about Xaxli'p land use, ecosystem-based forestry, and ecocultural restoration.
Board of Directors
The XCFC Board of Directors is made up of three to five Xaxli’p members. XCFC directors are experts in Xaxli’p cultural activities and land use within the Xaxli’p Survival Territory. The board provides broad guidance for all planning and operations of the community forest. The current directors are Herman Alec (Chair), David Adolph, Emerson Adolph, Nora Billy and Lia Wilson.
Forest Crew
The forest crew is a three-person team of Xaxli’p forest technicians who implement eco-cultural restoration plans on the ground. The forest crew does forest assessments, eco-cultural restoration treatments, ecosystem monitoring, prescribed burning, invasive species monitoring and treatment, firewood for community members, and activities to assist forest harvesting planning. All forest crew members are BC Forest Safety Council Certified Fallers. The Forest Crew members are Ed Mountain Jr. (Crew Boss), Robbie Bob, Derek Saul, Jarrod Mountain, Donovan Jacob, Jessiah Brown and Peqskawam Bob.
Range Riders
The Xaxli’p Range Riders work to encourage and protect Ntsuwa7lhkálha T’lákmen (Our way of life) within Xaxli’p Survival Territory. They work to reinforce a Xaxli’pmex presence within Xaxli’p Survival Territory through maintaining a physical presence on the land. They also work with the Xaxli’p Community Forest and the Xaxli’p community to take care of the land. This work will gradually reflect the authority of Xaxli’pmex to outsiders and trespassers of the Xaxli’p Survival Territory. The goal of the Range Riders is to demonstrate Xaxli’p authority over Xaxli’p Survival Territory through use and occupancy including, protecting the land through regular range patrols, involving the community and educating youth on Ntsuwa7lhkálha Tíákmen (Our way of life) and, encouraging the use and occupancy of Xaxli’p Survival Territory through special projects such as the Xaxli’p cabin project and Xaxli’p Youth Culture Camps. The Range Riders are Larry Narcisse and Jammie Charlie.
